J the Protagonist is an American recording artist hailing from Oxon Hill, MD and currently living in Kawasaki, Japan. His distinct voice and delivery, coupled with impressive vocal range, is what makes this artist special. From boom bap, to trap, to R&B, no matter the beat or the sound, he knows how to leave his unique mark on any song. J the Protagonist released his first single “Daze Off” in 2020, followed by several more singles, produced by ghostpops. The artist is also featured on projects from Monsieur Jovoni, A. Valley, Teddy Robinson, Deza, Cheshire, Umbrella Boyz, Tokyo Marginal Arts and more. The music video for his song “Bullet Down” was also nominated for the 2022 Ninja Indies Film Festival. His song “Dead Eye” features in the ending scene of the Paramount Pictures film “Snag” He’s also done body-double work for Lil Uzi Vert! He is quoted as saying “ Hard work and talent have no choice but to pay off, in the end. If they haven’t paid off, it’s not the end yet.” His mixtapes “Good as Gold” and “Good as Gold 2” serenade the soul!

Blurring the line between country and rock music Jackson started writing their first album late 2022/2023. Fast forward to January of 2024, the album was ready for release and the band ready to perform. A contest was held by Charlotte terrestrial radio station 96.9 The Kat, looking to expose new and local country artists from the area. Jackson’s first single “Whiskeys Gonna Find Me” was entered and won the competition. The exposure from the contest and requests garnered the band regular air play for a month, keeping “Whiskeys Gonna Find Me” in the top 100 Kat country songs for the better part of that month and can still be requested today. The band has since released 2 more singles and videos to accompany them, “The Way You Love Me”, and “Party In The South”. Both singles are doing well with several thousand plays each. Currently Jackson just begun playing live shows, with an emphasis on their original music and covers of more modern country artists like Hardy, Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen and Nate Smith to name a few, as well as a tip of the cap to legends like George Strait, Garth Brooks, Hank Jr. and Johnny Cash. With several offers of upcoming shows, 2024/2025 looks to be a promising year for the band. Be sure to catch and upcoming show and see where it takes Jackson.
